Entry Requirements
To be eligible, applicants should be non-Chinese citizens with a valid ordinary-type passport, and in good health;
According to the regulations of the Ministry of Education of China, those who immigrated to other countries from the Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao or Taiwan and applying to study in Shanghai University as international students, should meet the following additional requirements: the applicants must hold valid passport or other relevant international recognized documents for at least 4 years; meanwhile, in the latest 4 years (by each April 30th of the year of University registration), the applicants must have lived overseas for 2 years (Living overseas for 9 months can be converted to 1 year, which is subject to the exit-entry stamp on visa.).
If you are applying for Chinese-taught programs, HSK certificates within two years are required (HSK refers to Chinese Proficiency Test.
HSK 5 above 180 for Science or Engineering , Economics or Management and Art;
HSK 5 above 210 for Humanities.
HSK Exemptions The following types of applicants are exempt from taking the HSK:
Native speaker of Chinese;
The previous degree is fully taught in Chinese.
Academic Requirement

Graduates who did not receive their degree certificates at the time of application should provide pre-graduation certificates issued by their schools or colleges to prove their ability to graduate smoothly and obtain their degree certificates by July 2021.
Have relevant undergraduate academic background or have completed undergraduate-level courses relevant to intended graduate major, GPA 2.5 or above(Note: 4-Point GPA System);
Accepted by a prospective professor at Shanghai University
Choose supervisor online when choosing a major in the online application system and get accepted by a prospective professor.
Please note that it is not required to choose supervisor for the following Master's programs: School of Economics, MBA center and SILC Business School. The colleges will arrange soon after they register at Shanghai University.
Some colleges give priority to applicants with work experience, such as MBA Center.
Students applying to programs of arts must have relative academic background and submit a portfolio.

Program Description
1. Cultivation Aims
This program aims to cultivate qualified personnel who are well developed morally, intellectually and physically. They are expected to lay a solid theoretical foundation in the English language, literature and culture, acquire systematic specified knowledge and fairly good practical ability. They are also required to be able to undertake teaching, scientific research and other social work in the field of English language and literature.2. Duration of the Program
This program generally lasts three years.3. Research Directions
3.1 Translation: studies of classics translation, and of translation theories and techniques.
3.2 British and American Literature: studies of the British literature, American literature and literary criticism
3.3 British and American popular Literature: Studies of British and American popular novels.
3.4 Cross-Cultural Communication: Focus on contrastive study between English language and culture and Chinese language and culture.

Research and Thesis
5.1 After acquiring all the credits as required, candidates are eligible for conducting research on their theses.
5.2 Candidates should present their topics of their theses, then collect both Chinese and foreign documentary resources, begin the research work under guidance of their supervisors, conduct seminars on documentary resources, thesis preliminary conference and periodical reports on their theses. After consulting the discipline panel and obtaining the approval of the panel, candidates can start their specific studies and thesis writing.
5.3 Theses must be written in accurate and smooth English as well as in good format, logic and organization, supported by full and detailed reference resources. The theses should convey the original and correct ideas of the authors, up to the requirements of being published. The 15000- to 20000-word thesis must be printed out one month prior to the defense and then submitted to the defense committee, which will make arrangement for the evaluation and defense of the theses.
5.4 The thesis writing should be conducted in accordance with "The Quantification Index on Research Achievements of Shanghai University for Master's and Doctoral Candidates."
5.5 The completed theses should be assessed and degrees conferred in accordance with "Regulations Concerning Academic Degrees in the People's Republic of China" and " Rules Concerning Academic Degrees in Shanghai University."

A clear copy of your valid passport with your name, photo, birth date, place of birth, date of issue, date of expiry; Visa page is required for applicants who are not in their home country.
*2. Academic Transcripts of Bachelor Degree
Academic Transcripts in languages other than Chinese or English should be translated into Chinese or English and be certified by notarization. Both original and official English translated version are required.
For applicants who haven’t graduated, pending graduation certificate and transcripts available till the application date are also acceptable. Official graduation certificate and transcripts of all grades shall be submitted timely after being received.*3. Statement of Financial Support
Certificate of your family financial situation background. You need to go to the bank to issue a deposit of your family financial situation.

Any fake or forgery signature will lead to disqualification of scholarship and enrolment. A video including self-introduction and study plan in China shot by the applicants. (within 50M, avi, mov, mp4 all accepted) The language of the video is up to the medium of instruction in the selected major (English or Chinese).
*7. ID photo
Recent bareheaded (within six months), full-face, blue-color background, one-inch certificate photo (390*570), instead of landscape photos or photos of daily life; in JPG format, less than 100K.
*8. Highest Degree Certificate
Certificate in languages other than Chinese or English should be translated into Chinese or English and be certified by notarization. Both original and official English translated version are required.

Written in English or Chinese (according to the teaching language of the program), more than 800 words, including research achievements so far (e.g. title and abstracts of graduation thesis or published paper), reasons of choosing SHU, study and research plan, future career plan, etc.
