Above 18 years old, non-Chinese citizen, and in good health.
Note: According to the regulations of the Ministry of Education of China, those who emigrated to other countries from the Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao or Taiwan and applying to study in Shanghai University as international students, should meet the following additional requirements: the applicants must hold valid passport or other relevant international recognized documents for at least 4 years; meanwhile, in the latest 4 years (by each April 30th of the year of University registration), the applicants must have lived overseas for 2 years (Living overseas for 9 months can be converted to 1 year, which is subject to the exit-entry stamp on visa).
Language Proficiency
If you are applying for Chinese-taught programs, HSK certificates within the recent two year are required:
HSK 4 above 180 for Chinese Language (BA), and Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (BA);
HSK 5 above 180 for Science, Engineering, Economics, Management & Arts
HSK 5 above 210 for Humanities.
HSK Exemptions
The following types of applicants are exempt from taking the HSK;
Native speaker of Chinese;
The previous degree is fully taught in Chinese and has gained certificate;
Academic Requirement
High school graduate with GPA 3.0 or above (Note: 4-Point GPA System);
For Science and Engineering programs, applicants are qualified in mathematics and physics in high school. Some programs also require computer programming courses record, such as digital media technology and film making;
For Economics and Management programs, applicants are qualified in mathematics in high school;
For Arts programs, applicants must have related academic background and are required to submit the portfolio (such as paintings, story scripts, short movies, etc.).

Special Requirements
Online Interview Before Being Accepted: Required
You will need to attend an online interview through Skype or WeChat with the teacher before the result for your application was released.
Pay Deposit Before Getting Admission Letter: Required, and You Will Need to Pay 5,000 RMBYou will need to pay 5,000 RMB as a deposit to the university before you can get admission letter, and usually it will be used as part of the tuition fee.

*1. Information Page of Passport
A clear copy of your valid passport with your name, photo, birth date, place of birth, date of issue, date of expiry; Visa page is required for applicants who are currently in China.
*2. Highest Degree Certificate
Graduation certificate in languages other than Chinese or English should be translated into Chinese or English and be certified by notarization.
For applicants who haven’t graduated, pending graduation certificate available till the application date is also acceptable. Official graduation certificate shall be submitted timely after being received.*3. Highest Degree Official Transcripts
Transcripts in languages other than Chinese or English should be translated into Chinese or English and be certified by notarization.

Certificate of your family financial situation background. You need to go to the bank to issue a deposit of your family financial situation.

Written in English or Chinese (according to the teaching language of the program), including research achievements so far (e.g. title and abstracts of graduation thesis or published paper), reasons of choosing SHU, study and research plan, future career plan, etc.
6. Other materials
Applicants for art majors should provide relevant artworks (painting, audios or videos).
*7. Certificate of No Criminal Record
For any applicants who cannot get the Certificate of No Criminal Record at home country, please sign the No criminal record Commitment with Shanghai University

Applicants should submit a video including self-introduction and study plan in China. avi, mov, or mp4 less than 50 MB are accepted. The language of the video should be consistent with the language of the program you are applying for (English or Chinese).
*9. ID photo
The passport-size photo (one-inch, 390*570) should be taken within the last six months, bareheaded, full-faced with blue-color background; the photo is required to submit as JPG image less than 100kb.
